What fun activities do you do for cardio?

I am not sure I would agree with that statement. Yes, high intensity is great for those getting into shape. However intensity breeds strength.

With all due respect, I don't agree that high intensity interval training (HIIT) interferes with strength training. A quick search on Google will show that there is plenty of scientific evidence showing that HIIT causes the release of HGH (Human Growth Hormone) similarly to heavy compound exercises like deads.

I do agree with you if you mean that: if your goal is pure, maximum strength and growth, then you shouldn't do any cardio. Your body has a limit on recovery and growth and doing HIIT, or target heart rate cardio will definitely require resources such as glutamine.

If there is anything I have learned about strength training it is "different strokes for different folks." What works for one won't necessarily work for someone else. Look at all the different regimens out there! They all worked for the people who created them.

Well, I am a pure strength athlete. I do low intensity cardio to improve GPP, and sometimes use HIIT for condiitioning. It is rough for a 255lbs guy to try to use those in a strength routine and always be at 100%. Understand when I say strength I mean maximal 1RM.

Intensity breeds strength is a little misleading. What is your gauge of intensity?

I'm not following your post about HIIT = hGH release = strength. I have done some research on pulsatile GH release and most agree that the amounts produced via workouts do not have any long term physiological effects. Absolute strength is a result of strength training.

Disclaimer - I am in no way affiliated with this company other than having purchased this product.

I use this timer to manage my intervals and I love it. Had it for a year with no problems.

Thanks, I just ordered up one of these Gymboss's. This should help keep my workouts on track.

No question that HIIT or slow cardio has no place in a "pure" strength program. You will get better gains with 1-3 reps than you will with anything else.

Personally, I'm looking for a balance of fitness and, for the very shallow reason, of looking good with my shirt off. Because of that, HIIT plays a big part in my workouts.

You sound like a guy who would prefer to do his own research, so why not google HIIT and HGH and see what you find; there is a lot of discussion on the topic. Caveat emptor.

HGH does play a role in pure strength training - working out is a catabolic process, recovery is an anabolic process which is stimulated by HGH.

In any event, to each his own, and...I think we've gotten off topic.

Fair enough. Let me get back on topic. Cardio is rarely fun for me :) but I do enjoy road biking, which I am sure looks a bit funny.

HIIT is great cardio, just not for me.
